Arcam DV79 DVD-Audio Player - What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision

From the August 2004 issue:

...picture quality takes a notable step forward.  Resolution improves, and image stability is better.  ...Watch Kill Bill and the results are deeply impressive: contrast is excellent, and skin tones are reproduced with ease.  Movie sound is insightful, and authoritative, while a spin of Linkin Park's Pts Of Athrty on DVD-Audio adds a degree of subtlety and punch that most rivals can't match.  The story stays similarly positive with CD.

Arcam DV79 DVD-Audio Player - AV Tech

The first review on the DV79 appeared in the May 2004 issue of AVTech, a new British magazine published by Hi-Fi News.  They say:

Arcam demonstrates that some digital pictures are more perfect than others...

The superiority of this player is obvious from the very onset, a supremacy born of two key visual imperatives.  First, that the DV79 benefits from the same inherently filmlike quality that wowed us when viewing the DV88 Plus.  Both players share the same Vaddis V motion adaptive progressive deinterlacer, by the way.  Second is the very real sense of depth, a feeling of three-dimensionality that draws you into every movie, rather like watching it for the first time.  To this is added a subtle easiness, so that detail in its minutest form is drawn with a fatigue-free confidence.

...the end result is a player that offers just about the most convincing multichannel DVD-Audio performance that we've heard to date.  Like the AV8, the DV79 draws a pool of sound that slips free of the speakers, immersing the listener in a compelling but undemanding wash of music.

"For the ultimate in DVD-sourced digital video and in multichannel DVD-Audio, Arcam's DV79 raises the bar to a new and record height."
